A recorded session assignment asks students to run a role-play or real session in Meet, then submit the recording for grading.

For students

  1. Open the assignment from your class. Choose Link recording. This opens it in Meet.
  2. Record or upload your session. Choose Start a Meet session or Upload a session.
  3. Pick the session from your list. Only your own finished recordings that have client consent on file appear.
  4. Read the confirmation. It tells you that your instructors will be able to watch the recording, read its transcript, and add comments.
  5. Answer any post-session questions your teacher added. They appear one per page, and your answers save as you go.
  6. Submit.
Until the grade is released you can choose Replace recording to swap in a different one, without using an attempt.
Before your teacher releases the grade you only see that your work was submitted. Your grade, your teacher’s written feedback, and instructor comments appear after release. AI feedback may appear earlier unless your teacher turned it off.

For teachers

Create the assignment

Choose Recorded session when you create an assignment. You’ll set:
  • Details: title, description, due date, and whether late submissions are accepted
  • Settings: instructions, attempts, the score out of, and whether grades release automatically
  • Evaluation: a rubric, or leave it on General for an overall score and feedback. You can also turn on Theory Analysis and add post-session assessments.

Grade it

Open the submission from the gradebook. The grading page shows the video and transcript, the rubric and checklist tabs, and any assessments.
  • Click Generate AI feedback for suggested scores. They’re only suggestions. Review and edit them before you publish.
  • Choose whether to release the grade to the student right away, or publish it and hold it until later.
  • You can unpublish a grade to revise it. Your work is kept as a draft.
AI feedback needs a finished transcript, transcription turned on for that meeting, and consent from every client. The recording’s owner also has to mark which speaker is them with This is me.
Only the owner and teachers of the class can see a linked recording, and only through that class. Program admins and other teachers don’t get access just because of their role.
