# High-level feedback

> An at-a-glance summary of your session performance with an overall score and four competency category scores.

The High-Level Feedback is the first report you'll see after a session. It gives you an overall score (0–100) and scores across four competency categories, plus a written executive summary of your session.

## Overall performance score

Your overall score is a composite rating based on:

* Communication effectiveness
* Clinical assessment thoroughness
* Therapeutic skills application
* Professional demeanor
* Scenario-specific objectives

### Score tiers

| Score    | Level             | What it means                                                                       |
| -------- | ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 90–100 | Excellent | Advanced clinical communication demonstrated consistently throughout the session |
| 75–89 | Proficient | Solid performance with effective use of core skills and minor areas for refinement |
| 60–74 | Developing | Basic competency demonstrated but significant room for skill development |
| Below 60 | Needs improvement | Foundational skills need strengthening before progressing to more complex scenarios |

<Note>Score decreases between sessions are normal — harder scenarios, trying new techniques, or simply a different patient dynamic can all lower scores temporarily. Compare yourself to your own baseline, not others.</Note>

## Competency categories

### 1. Communication skills

* Clarity of expression
* Active listening

## How to use high-level feedback

<Steps>
  <Step title="Note your overall score">
    This gives context for the detailed feedback that follows. Is it in the tier you expected?
  </Step>

  <Step title="Identify your strongest category">
    Understanding your natural clinical strengths helps you build confidence and leverage them in weaker areas.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Focus on your lowest-scoring category">
    Your lowest area should be the primary focus for your next session.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the executive summary">
    The narrative explains *why* certain scores are high or low. It highlights patterns and specific moments that influenced your ratings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Drill down into other reports">
    * Low communication score → [Advanced Skills](/docs/simulations/advanced-skills)
    * Want specific line-by-line examples → [Annotated Transcript](/docs/simulations/annotated-transcript)
    * Curious about theoretical approach → [Theory Analysis](/docs/simulations/theory-analysis)

## Setting goals based on feedback

Use your high-level feedback to create focused, actionable practice goals:

* **Specific:** "Improve my empathy score from 65 to 75"
* **Measurable:** Track score changes across sessions on your dashboard
* **Achievable:** Focus on 1–2 categories at a time, not everything at once
* **Time-bound:** "Within the next 5 practice sessions"

A good rule of thumb: spend 70% of your practice on weak areas and 30% maintaining and expanding your strengths.

<Tip>Review your high-level feedback first for the big picture, then dive into the [Annotated Transcript](/docs/simulations/annotated-transcript) for specific examples, and use [Chat with Feedback](/docs/simulations/chat-with-feedback) to ask follow-up questions about anything you don't understand.</Tip>
